Information and Instructional Technology
At Union Public Schools, technology plays a vital role in preparing students for success in an ever-changing digital world. The mission of the Technology Department is to empower classroom teachers by providing reliable, innovative, and secure technology solutions that enhance teaching and learning.
We are committed to maintaining a stable technology environment that supports a high-quality educational experience for every student and staff member. In addition, we recognize that safety and security are fundamental to our work. Through advanced cybersecurity measures, device protection, online activity monitoring, and proactive security tools, we strive to provide a safe and responsible digital environment where students can learn, create, and explore with confidence.
Staff
The technology department is comprised of employees in various roles such as solution center representatives, field techs, student laptop support, and secondary school site techs.
Network
All of Union’s school sites and facilities are connected via 40 Gbps private fiber. All network traffic egresses from a central location with a 30 GB connection to the internet.
Standards
Union standardizes on either Dell or Lenovo computers for teachers, staff and student use. These computers are updated every four years as their warranties expire.
Computer and Internet Use Agreements
All users of Union’s networks and/or devices are expected to behave in appropriate manners as defined by the acceptable use agreement, student handbook, or applicable Board Policies.
Parental Support
Through our partnership with Linewize, Union is able to extend visibility and safeguarding controls to parents and guardians. These controls include:
- The ability to filter/block content
- Visibility on browsing history, social media, and screen time
- Time limits and screen-free schedules
- Reports for inappropriate content or alerts
